Black Mustard Seed

Black mustard seeds are small round dark brown to black seeds - smooth with a hard shell. They have a mild nutty aroma until crushed or toasted - then sharp and pungent. The flavor is hot spicy and bitter - strong heat with nutty undertones. Great for tempering in Indian cooking pickles curries or rubs. Toast for best flavor. Pairs with cumin coriander fenugreek or chili.
